IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Alan
Stinson
May 25, 1930 – January 24, 2021
Alan Stinson passed away peacefully on January 24, 2021 at Casa D'Amore in League City, Texas.
Alan was born May 25, 1930 in Santa Ana, California to Kenneth and Mabel (Briscoe) Stinson. His parents returned to their native Oklahoma in 1935, where Alan attended public schools, graduating Bennington High School in 1948. Alan entered the U.S. Army in 1952, completing basic training at Fort Knox. He graduated from Infantry Officer Candidate School in 1953 and was commissioned as Army Second Lieutenant. After leaving military service, Alan supported his family by working as a brickmason and a cotton gin representative while pursuing his dream of flying. His first job as a professional aviator came when Texas pipeline entrepreneur Jimmy Adair hired Alan to pilot aircraft at Cuddihy Field near Corpus Christi. It was the start of a life-long career in aviation. Alan captained airplanes for oil barons, Hollywood movie idols, American presidents, rock stars, and one notorious Ponzi artist. He executed aerial pick-ups from offshore drilling platforms in the Gulf of Mexico, performed geosurveys off the Atlantic coast, and delivered the U.S. Mail to the Hawaiian island of Molokai. Alan loved everything about flying, and was never happier than when he was sitting in a cockpit, high in the sky.
Handsome and with the manners of a Southern gentleman, Alan was rarely without female companionship. He married (and was divorced from) Betty Jean Ticknor, Robbie Ellen Hale, Barbara Witters, and Katherine Buckley. A lady's man to the end, Alan charmed the nurses and aides at Essential Hospice and Casa D'Amore, and his family thanks these excellent women and Dr. Lorenzo Bortolotti for caring for him with compassion and love during his final journey.
Alan is survived by children Laura Stinson (John Lilley), Sam Stinson, Hope Stinson, and goddaughter Trina Corbin, as well as grandchildren Sarah Nejdl (Rusty), Alysia Hayas (Steve Morgan), Lucas Hayas, and three great-grandchildren. Son Terry Alan Stinson and grandson Jason Stinson pre-deceased him.
Alan will be laid to rest at Houston National Cemetery. Due to the COVID-19 crisis, the family has postponed the memorial service until a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Alan's honor can be made to Families to Freedom ( https://www.familiestofreedom.org )
