IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Arlon James
Sammons
June 24, 1922 – August 2, 2020
Arlon James Sammons, 98, passed away on August 2, 2020, at the Llewellyn's Magnolia Place Assisted Living Facility in Magnolia, Texas. He was born in Kermit, West Virginia to Alonzo and Tennessee Sammons on June 24, 1922.
Arlon is preceded in death by his first wife Margaret, his youngest daughter Donna, and his grandson Nathan. He leaves behind his wife Carnellia (Corky) along with his daughters Deborah Collings, Kathy Serwinek, and his son Jeffrey Sammons and four stepchildren Stacey Peter, Eric Meyer, Scott Meyer, and Mandi Garcia and their spouses; six grandchildren, Jason, Mathew, Rosemary, Arlon (named after his grandfather), Hillary, Alicia and six step grandchildren, Jonathan, Carissa, Hayden, Bryan, Caleb and Arabella and their spouses and children.
After Arlon retired from UPS in 1985, he and Margaret moved from Michigan to Texas where he enjoyed working in the yard and making improvements on the house. He loved his porch swing, favorite chair, and a good cup of coffee! But, the source of greatest enjoyment was his love of serving his God, Jehovah. He was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses on June 30, 1960 and served faithfully until his death. Going to meetings and involvement in the voluntary ministry was not optional, it was a great part of his life. In his later years he was no longer able physically go door-to-door in the ministry, but he found joy in telephone witnessing. Even when he was extremely ill, he was always dressed and ready to be picked up by loving friends to go to the local Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses to take part in the organized phone witnessing work.
Arlon had a strong hope and faith in the promised coming resurrection to life on a paradise earth (John 5: 28-29). He was looking forward to seeing all his loved ones there and is fully expecting them to be there to greet him when he is resurrected. Meantime, he will be sorely missed by all. And, that cup of coffee will be waiting for him!
A memorial service will be held using Zoom on August 15, 2020 at 2 PM CST. Burial will follow, at a later date, at the Houston National Cemetery.
