Obituary

Charles William Lamkin III (Chuck)

8/20/49 – 4/10/21

Chuck Lamkin, age 71, was born August 20, 1949 to Charles & Georgia Lamkin in Victoria TX.  Chuck passed away surrounded by loved ones at his home on April 10, 2021, after a difficult battle with esophageal cancer.

Chuck grew up in Corpus Christi, Texas, attending Richard King High School. He was an excellent baseball player, and was even scouted in high school, but being the true patriot, he enlisted in the Army. He served in Vietnam with the 173 rd Airborne Division and also served in a LRRP unit.  He received several medals including a National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Bronze Star Medal with Oakleaf Cluster & a Parachute Badge. He loved his country and was a true patriot, always flying the American flag.  In 2002 Chuck accepted a job as a Department of Defense contractor & worked in Iraq for many years.

Chuck loved being outdoors; his hobbies were fishing, boating and golfing. He spent countless weekends on the lake teaching his daughter Lacy and her friends to waterski. He always liked to go out for Mexican food and attend country music concerts and festivals. He enjoyed watching sports and would often meet friends and family at a sports bar to watch the Houston games, as well as attend sporting events.

Chuck enjoyed traveling and would stop in Europe on his visits home from Iraq. Mexico was a fun destination Lacy & Chuck got to experience together. He loved the beach and enjoyed Galveston and Port Aransas. Thanksgiving was his favorite holiday.  He enjoyed spending it with his sisters, nieces and nephews over the years. He loved history especially the history of the Alamo could spend hours talking about it.

After retiring to his happy place, the lake, Chuck accepted a maintenance job in his subdivision.  It was a way for him to meet and get to know his neighbors & make lasting friendships.  Chuck had a wonderful sense of humor and his laugh and smile were contagious.

His life was an inspiration to many, and he leaves a profound legacy behind that will live on for generations.  Chuck was a loving, devoted, dad, brother, uncle, grandfather, brother-in-law, father-in-law and friend.  He is in Heaven now with his youngest daughter Lindsey and his parents.  He is survived by daughter Lacy Medrano and husband Javier; grandchildren Cameryn and Brooks Medrano; sisters Donna Neefe and husband Bob, Helen Neugebauer and husband Bert; nieces Kim, Kelly and Alison; nephews Robert, Frank and Tommy; and good friends Bob and Micky, as well as many other cousins, great-nieces/nephews and friends.  Chuck you will be missed so very much by all who love you.
