At 78 years old, Clarence, of Houston, TX, passed away on January 29, 2021, after a long battle with prostate cancer.
Clarence was born on June 10, 1942, in Houston, Texas, to Carl Lester and Mary Ida Mae (Cluse) Williams. He was preceded in death by his sister Dianne (Williams) Walker and his great-grandson Jayce Italo Cooper. Clarence is survived by his wife Cassendra (Auguillard) Williams, his sons Clarence Williams Jr. and Timothy Williams, his daughters Aunjanee (Williams) Gautreaux and Candace (Williams) Cooper, his granddaughters Deja Gautreaux, Aunjanee Cooper, Deanna Cooper and Italia Cooper, his grandson Asavior Flewellen (TJ) and his great-grandsons Devonte and Carson Lewis-Malbroue.
Clarence grew up in the French-Town area of the 5th Ward of Houston. Also, he lived in the 3rd Ward area of Houston, where he graduated from Jack Yates High School in 1960.
He completed a year of study at the University of New Mexico, after which Clarence joined the United States Air Force (USAF) in 1962. While on military leave in Houston, he married the girl who lived across the street from him in French-Town, Cassendra Auguillard, on October 20, 1964. They enjoyed over four years in Europe when he was stationed at USAF bases in France and Germany. His last year in the USAF was as a veteran of the Vietnam War.
Clarence returned to Houston and completed his studies on his Bachelor's Degree in Public Administration from Texas Southern University, and in 1973 he joined NASA – Johnson Space Center. As a member of the Personnel Office, Clarence moved on to the Training Department where he ultimately became the Deputy Training Director. After retiring in 1995, he spent much of his time enjoying the company of his children and their friends, his grandchildren that would soon be born, and eventually, great-grandchildren.
He was an inspiration to and major influence on so many people, and he made a huge impact on so many lives. He will truly be missed by many. He is gone, but he will never be forgotten.
The family will receive friends starting at 12:30pm on February 11, 2021, at Graceful Memorial Chapel. Clarence's body will then be transferred to Houston National Cemetery.
He was tormented by the thought of a child suffering from cancer. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made in his name to St. Jude Research Hospital.
