IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Connie
Lee
January 20, 1934 – September 16, 2021
In January 1934 Consuelo Minjares was born to Refugio and Julia Minjares in Austwell, Texas. Her family and friends
called her Connie. She passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 16, 2021 from natural causes and a broken
heart from the loss of her beloved husband, Pete, who passed on Mother's Day weekend and a couple of weeks before
their sixty-seventh wedding anniversary. Connie is predeceased by her parents, by all of her brothers and sisters, by many
other relatives and friends, and her favorite Calico cat named Gata (cat in Spanish).
Survivors include her daughter, Sylvia Barnes, by her son-in-law, Gene Barnes and by her only granddaughter, Brittany
Barnes, who called her grandmother "Nanny". Connie leaves behind many nephews, nieces and other extended family
members that she loved very much.
Connie was a homemaker living in Houston, Texas. She was the happiest when surrounded by family, friends and
neighbors sharing meals, playing cards, traveling and of course when she was shopping. Family and friends loved her
homemade Spanish rice, flour tortillas and delicious crispy fried chicken. Her husband's favorite dish that she made was
Chicken and Dumplings from scratch. Connie's homemade turkey and dressing was the highlight for many holidays,
especially on Thanksgiving and Christmas.
It is important to note that Connie was a brave breast cancer survivor from many years ago. She had to undergo a
mastectomy, many rounds of chemo and deal with all kinds of other issues related to fighting cancer. But in the end, she
beat the cancer and lived out her life as a true warrior.
Connie's ashes and her husband's ashes will be buried at their eternal resting place at the Veteran's Memorial Cemetery at
a future date. John 11:25-26: Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will
live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?"
Her Journey's Just Begun
Don't think of her as gone away, her journey's just begun
Life holds so many facets, this earth is only one.
Just think of her as resting from the sorrows and the tears
In a place of warmth and comfort where there are no days or years.
Think how she must be wishing that we could know today
How nothing but our sadness, can really pass away.
And think of her as living in the hearts of those she touched
For nothing loved is ever lost and she was loved so much.
