May 13, 1927 – June 24, 2020
David Ray Crockett Sr. passed away on Wednesday, June 24, 2020, at the age of 93. He was born on May 13, 1927, in Jacksonville, Florida, to Erland and Gwendolyn Crockett. David is preceded in death by both parents, 2 siblings, and 2 children. He is fondly remembered by his sons: Robert Crockett, wife Kathy; Billy Crockett, wife Carol; and David Crockett Jr., wife Pam. Many other family members and multiple generations continue his legacy.
David defended our country's freedom in the Air Force as a Master Sergeant during the Korean War. He also spent many years protecting the public as a police officer. In his younger days, he hosted a television show in San Angelo, Texas. David led a country music band, Smiley and The Melodies. He was sometimes referred to as the "Singing Policeman."
Most recently, David loved spending time with his sons on Lake Livingston and fishing (his brain food). He enjoyed playing the guitar and singing country music (he could still play at the age of 93). David loved ice cream and the Lord.
Memorial services will be held on Monday, July 27, 2020 at 11:15 am at The Houston National Cemetery, located at 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas 77038. The "gate time" is 11:15 so please do not begin lining up in lane 2 until 11:01 am.
