Obituary

On Thursday, February 11, 2021, Debra Jean (Gilstrap) Smith, loving mother and MawMaw passed away at the age of 68.
Debra was born on December 24, 1952 in Pasadena, TX to David Gilstrap Sr. and Shirley (Cross) Gilstrap. On October 26, 1969 she married Raymond Smith Sr. They had one daughter, Terri, and two sons, Raymond Jr. and Matthew. Debra and Raymond Smith Sr. divorced in June 1980.
Debra had a passion for life itself. She loved God, family, work, music, swimming, and games. One of her favorite things to do was sit around the living room with her children and grandchildren playing the "song game." Debra loved to play in the water with her family, she was usually the first one in and the last one out. Debra worked hard as a single mother to support her children. She never turned down an opportunity for overtime or holiday pay. Everyone who knows her knew the easiest way to make her smile and hear how you were the best of her family was to bring her a Diet Dr. Pepper and a bag of potato chips. Debra believed in working hard and playing hard. Taking care of her family and teaching them the importance of working and playing together.
Debra was preceded in death by her father, David Gilstrap Sr., her mother, Shirley (Cross) Gilstrap, and beloved niece, Julie Gilstrap.
Debra is survived by her daughter, Terri  Earnest, sons and daughters in law: Raymond Smith Jr. and Lawanda Smith, Matthew and Lindy Smith.
Debra is survived by her grandchildren:
Jeffrey and Daishia Smith, Staci and Steven Newbury, Dustin and Chloe Smith, Daylan and Jade Smith, Dawson Smith, Shelby Smith, Shelby Holmes, Trey and Courtney Hargraves, Austin and Cheryl Hargraves, Karlie Hargraves, Samantha and Nathan Miller, Karon and Arron Phillips. And great-grandchildren: Aubree and Benjamin Smith, Caleb, Caden and Peyton Newbury. Raelynn an Mason Smith, Callie Phillips.
Brother and Sister in law, David Jr. and Debra Gilstrap. Sisters and brothers in law: Janet and Johnnie McClelland Sr. , Ginger and Eugene Martin. Many nieces , nephews, cousins and friends.
