Obituary

On Feburary 19, 2020, Derek "D" McIntosh peacefully transitioned from this life surrounded by his dedicated wife, children and loved ones at his home in Houston, Texas.

Born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio on Feburary 11, 1971, Derek was the oldest of two children born to Karen McIntosh. As a young man, Derek was full of personality and adventure. From riding horses on his grandparents farm to gardening with his grandfather, Derek always had a love of life. He graduated from St. Joseph High School in Cleveland, OH in 1989 and subsequently attended Norfolk University in VA. In 1994, Derek met the love of his life, Wanda, and they married on August 8th, 1998. They lovingly raised four children and nurtured a close-knit, supportive family.

After visiting Houston in 1997, Derek decided that relocating from Cleveland would be best for his family and he was able to fulfill this dream in 2012. During his time in Houston, Derek formed many bonds and continued his job as a Dialysis Technician at Fresenius Medical Center, a positon he began in Cleveland in 1997. During his 21 year tenure, Derek's personality helped him to form lifelong relationships with his co-workers and patients. Derek was a natural conversationalist and never met a stranger.

As a devoted father and husband, Derek was always involved in his childrens lives - from coaching Ty's sports teams to traveling for Alexis' many competitions. Derek loved traveling, Star Wars, gardening, and was a fanatic "foodie." He enjoyed sharing this enthusiasm for food with Brena', watching sports with Cierra, and loved the joy his little shadow, Kennedy, brought to his life daily.

Derek had many adventures throughout his life but his most treasured times were spent with his family. As the patriarch of the family, Derek was a father-figure and offered his wisdom and guidance. He opened his home and his heart forming a close extended family. To many, he was considered "uncle" and "brother."

Leaving behind a legacy of strength and resilence that will be carried on forever through his children, Derek courageously fought a 2 year battle with gastric cancer. He was a special soul that touched many people througout his life and he will be deeply missed. We will cherish our memories and continue to honor his love for life.

Survived by his wife of almost 22 years, Wanda; four children Cierra, Brena', Derek "Ty," and Alexis; granddaughter Kennedy (Cierra), mother Karen McIntosh; sister Andrea; and a host of nieces and nephews. Derek also leaves behind to cherish his memory a host of close family and friends.

Family and friends are invited to share in the celebration of Derek's life on Saturday February 29th, from 2-4 PM at his home in Houston, TX. On Sunday March 8th, Cleveland family and friends are invited to celebrate his legacy at the Kiwanis Lodge in Richmond Heights, OH from 2-4 PM.
