Donald Lewis Crabill, known by Crab or Donnie by his friends and family, was born in Harrisburg, PA on Oct 12, 1959 to Delores and Donald Crabill. He passed peacefully in his home on May 9th, 2023 after a valiant battle against cancer. He is survived by his wife, Martha Crabill, his two daughters Kirsten and Andrea, son Greg, two granddaughters Lillian and Lundyn, two brothers Daniel and Dennis, two son-in-laws Douglas Grafton and Andrew Stamps, and a sister-in-law Deb Hanson. Along with his family, he leaves behind a huge web of influence that reminds his family daily of the incredible impact he had on the world.
As a child, he lived and breathed sports, feeling most at home on a basketball court. Upon graduation, he followed a friend's family to California, where he met his wife of 43 years and hiked and adventured for a majority of his remaining youth. Once returning to his childhood town of York, PA, he committed to raising a family. In 2009, his employer, Voith, sent him down to Houston, TX with a promotion. His time in Houston was filled with seeing live music, tending to his cactus garden, and being the most fun Pap two little girls could be lucky enough to have.
On paper, this life seemed so normal, yet it was far from it. How does one get across in a simple template what made a man like Donnie great? He had an energy, a passion, a spirit that was the embodiment of how to live life. He lived more in his 63 years than many do in 100. He was dependable, loving, hardworking, and loyal. He not only preached how to be a good person, he showed it. If his friend, or even a stranger, needed something, he was there without question. If his kids needed advice, he gave it. His honesty and laughter combined to create a soul that anyone who met was lucky to have around. There are no amount of words or stories to be told that can even touch how much he meant to everybody in his life. He was an amazing human that we love, miss, and cherish more than he could ever know. We thank him for shaping our amazing family into what we are. We know he'll be with us forever; laughing at us sometimes, but mostly with us.
In lieu of a funeral, there will be a celebration of life on June 10, 2023 with blues music performed by the Mighty Orq at one of his favorite little spots in the Houston area, Green Oaks Tavern.
