Obituary

Donnie Hall, 72, of Houston, Texas passed away July 9, 2021 after a long and difficult battle from injuries sustained in a fall. He was a loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend.

Donnie was born in Iraan, Texas in January 1949 and by his own admission was an oilfield brat as the family moved frequently between Texas and Oklahoma, where he made many friends along the way. He attended Pampa High School and enjoyed playing the sax and continued in college as a member of the West Texas State University Buffalo Band. He graduated from WTSU with a bachelors and master's degrees.

He joined the US Army and was stationed at Fort Hood in the 2 nd Armored Division as lieutenant and also had multiple tours in Germany. Donnie enjoyed exploring Bavaria in an old VW with one of his fellow lieutenants. He was later promoted to Captain and held stations in Fort Knox, KY and Fort Dix, NJ.

In 1978, a mutual friend wanted to introduce Donnie to a certain special lady and they met for a movie and pizza. He was on cloud 9 after meeting her and thought Peggy was such a doll. The rest is history, as they enjoyed 42 wonderful years together as soulmates, parents and friends. They traveled extensively in the US, ventured into Canada and completed their own Grand Tour of Europe in 2015.

Career wise, Donnie enjoyed teaching at Permian Basin High School in Midland, but the siren call of the oil industry boom could not be ignored.  He decided to follow in his father's footsteps as a roughneck and worked his way up the ladder, eventually becoming an Accountant with Cities Services later, Occidental. He was a mentor and friend to many throughout his 29 years with Oxy.

Donnie's nomadic upbringing deepened his love of travel and he enjoyed mapping out routes in his cherished road atlas. When summers were fast approaching, he would haul out the trusty Woodall's directory and look for places to explore in NM and CO. Random weekends were perfect for getaways and to give Mom a break, long before staycations were a thing. We are truly grateful for the wanderlust that he instilled in all of us.

Survivors include his loving wife, Peggy Hall of Houston, son Bryan Hall, of Pflugerville, daughter Sarah Hall of Houston, his brother, Jimmie (Laura) Hall of Amarillo, brother-in-law, Paul Nance of Midland as well as numerous relatives scattered across the great state of Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents, Elton and Armedie Hall.

Military Honors will be held on Friday, August 6, 2021 at Houston National Cemetery ( followed by a Visitation and Celebration of Life service to be held at 10:45am at Champions Forest Baptist Church Jersey Village Campus Chapel, located at 16518 Jersey Dr, Jersey Village, TX 77040.

We would like to thank the wonderful nurses, doctors, case managers and staff of Memorial Hermann The Woodlands for their dedication, kindness and compassion. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations made to Houston Area Parkinson's Society (HAPS) as they have been a tremendous support network since his diagnosis in 2012. Donnie enjoyed his classes and the friends he made over the years with HAPS. Donations can be dedicated to his memory via www.HAPSonline.org or to the charity of your choice.
