Douglas McCowan, 79, passed away surrounded by his loved ones on August, 26, 2021.

Douglas William McCowan was born March 12, 1942 in Springfield Massachusetts. He will be remembered by his ex wife; Jeanne, two daughters; Alexandra and Victoria, and his 4 grandchildren; Katherine, Madelyn, Aiden, and Julianne.

Doug loved antique cars, flying, cooking, WWII history, Gilbert and Sullivan, and his grandchildren. His incredible memory made him an impossible trivial pursuit opponent and a wonderful storyteller.

Doug lived a life full of learning. He received his undergraduate degree in physics at MIT and his PHD at Penn State. He frequently could be found reading the atlas or correcting the history channel. He studied and became a licensed air conditioning mechanic because he liked to buy freon for his old systems rather than upgrade them all. He ranked people's intelligence by how well they scored on their aviation final tests - he was pretty proud of his 96!

Doug prided himself on being frugal. He refused to turn on his air conditioner until the internal temperature was above 86 degrees. He only insured 1 of his 7 Toyota MR2s because it's nearly impossible to make out the VIN number. He turned on his hot water heater only if it was absolutely necessary and mowed his lawn with one of the 1st generation riding lawn mowers from 1970.

He drank a mean margarita; 99% tequila and 1% lime juice.
