Douglas Speer passed away January 23, 2022 at his home in Tomball, Texas. The cause of death was cancer. With him was his brother, Clifford Speer who cared for him at home while Doug additionally received hospice care from Devotion Hospice for his illness.
Doug lived in the Tomball area for the last 20 years and had many avocations and several careers over his life, including downhill ski racer, auto enthusiast, dog lover, entrepreneur, writer, truck driver, salesman and executive. He was author of a published novel, "Cold Tap" and co-author with Jim Simpson of "You Drive a What?"
Doug was born in London, England August 15, 1956 to Philip C Speer and Amilia R Speer (Zienkiewicz), both of whom pre-deceased him. He grew up in England, Staten Island NY and Stamford CT. He attended Holderness School and New England College before embarking on a professional skiing career. He was married to Rosemary Priestley and Bridia Murphy. Both marriages ended in divorce. He is survived by his brother, Clifford Speer and several cousins. Funeral arrangements are private. Donations in Doug's memory may be made to Devotion Hospice, Conroe Texas.
