Frederick (Rick) Kunst van Almelo IV
August 7, 1977 – February 10, 2025
It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Frederick (Rick) Kunst van Almelo IV, of Houston, Texas, who passed away on February 10, 2025, at the age of 47. Rick was born on August 7, 1977, in Fort Rucker, Alabama, to Mary Miles Higgins and Frederick Kunst van Almelo III. He was a loved son, brother, father, uncle and friend who will be deeply missed.
Rick was a proud Veteran of the United States Marine Corps, where he was part of the Markmanship Training Unit. His dedication and discipline in the service carried over into all aspects of his life. For over 25 years, he worked in the oil and gas field industry, building lasting friendships with coworkers who became like family to him.
Rick was especially proud of his children, Peyton and Miles, whose talents in sports, theater, academics, and life brought him great pride. They are two of the most incredible, strong young people who will no doubt continue to make everyone proud with their future endeavors and accomplishments.
In addition to his love for his children, Rick had a deep passion for sports. He was an avid fan of the LSU Tigers, the Houston Astros and Texans and the New Orleans Saints. Rick also loved cooking, music and spending time on the golf course with his buddies.
Rick's storytelling, jokes, infectious and memorable laugh, and his larger-than-life personality are things that will be remembered fondly by everyone who knew him.
Rick is survived by his children, Peyton and Miles van Almelo; his mother, Mary Miles Higgins; his sister, Kristen Hagarty, her husband Ryan Hagarty, and their children Connor and Halle Hagarty; and his former wife, Michele (Robertson) van Almelo, who remained a supportive presence in his life for their beautiful children; and numerous extended family members and friends.
