Obituary

Georgene Della Schlichting was born March 15, 1933, in the small town of Hebron, Nebraska.  She was the third of 5 daughters born to Martin and Meta Holtzen.  This depressed farming area offered little to the Holtzen family, so Georgene, at age 3, moved with the family to Twin Falls, Idaho.  Here Mr. Holtzen worked as a farm assistant until he homesteaded a farming acreage near Buhl, Idaho.  A high priority for the Holtzens was living near a parochial school.  Buhl is located a few miles from Clover, Idaho, which consisted primarily of Trinity Lutheran Church and School.  After graduating from Filer High School, Georgene enrolled at Concordia Teachers College in Seward, Nebraska.  This in part became possible when she sold her saxophone to make enrollment financially possible.  After attending Concordia, her first teaching position sent her to St. Luke's Lutheran School in Reno, Nevada.  There she found an eligible young principal, Albert Schlichting, whom she married in 1955.  They were blessed with three children, Kevin, Donna (Mueller), and Janet (Nazarenus).  In 1960 the family moved to Denver, Colorado where Al taught for 32 years.  Georgene loved being in the kitchen.  She always had a smile, positive outlook, and was always willing to serve and help everyone that her life touched.   Her love for God showed through all of her words and actions on a daily basis.  She joined Al in ushering professional sports for 18 years.  This gave Georgene an opportunity to share in Al's great love for sports while also being able to share her kind spirit with others.  In 1999, the couple moved to Parker, Colorado and later to Spring, Texas in 2015 where she resided with Al until peacefully joining her heavenly Father on August 7, 2022.  Her four sisters – Wanda, Lou Ann, Marcella, & Adlyn preceded her in death.  She is survived by her husband Al, their three children, Kevin Schlichting and spouse Betsy, Donna Mueller and spouse Dave, Janet Nazarenus and spouse Ed, 6 precious grandchildren, 10 beautiful great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews, all of whom brought much joy and love throughout her life.  A memorial service is planned at Trinity Lutheran Church on Thursday, August 11 th , at 10:00am.  Since Lutheran education was such a part of Georgene's life, memorials can be made to Trinity Lutheran School in Spring, TX.
