Gregory Paul Dodson, 58, of Pasadena, Texas, passed away on June 28, 2021.  He was born February 11, 1963, in Metairie, Louisiana to Dorothy Jane and Herman Paul Dodson.  Greg is preceded in death by both parents; one sister and her husband Beverly and Stanley "Chigger" Parham; nephew Ryan "Dotty" Dodson; and brother-in-law Greg Williams.   Greg leaves behind three brothers: Ken Dodson and wife Betsy, David Dodson and wife Diane, and Jeff Dodson and wife Beth; one sister, Debbie Williams; nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews; and friends.

Greg served in the U.S. Navy from February 1986 to February 1990, serving for nearly 3 of those years on the battleship USS Iowa operating a gun fire-control system.  He was present on April 19, 1989, when the Number Two 16-inch gun turret exploded. The explosion in the center gun room killed 47 of the turret's crewmen and severely damaged the gun turret itself.  For his service Greg received 2 Sea Service Deployment Ribbons, an Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and a Navy Battle "E" Ribbon.

Greg attended St. Augustine Catholic School and Mount Carmel Catholic High School.  He tried his hand at different entrepreneurial pursuits over the years but primarily worked as a mechanic in the automotive and marine industries.  Greg also had an interest in photography, bee keeping, mining, and participated with Toys for Tots in Pasadena, TX.  At 6 feet 9 inches tall, Greg was affectionately called "Tall Uncle Greg" by his nieces and nephews and will be greatly missed by all for his kindness, joyful laugh, gentle ways, and loving heart.

Greg's funeral mass will be held on Thursday, August 19, 2021, at 10:00 am at St. Augustine Catholic Church located at 5560 Laurel Creek Way, Houston, TX, 77017.  Military Honors will follow at 2:15 pm at Houston National Cemetery, located at 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr., Houston, TX 77038.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Toys for Tots Toy Run, P.O. Box 1069, Pasadena, TX 77521-1069.
