Hannelore Ursula Stangl Briggs, beloved mother, wife and grandmother passed away peacefully at the age of 77 in Houston, TX on November 21, 2021, surrounded by her family. Born in Breslau, Germany on May 4, 1944, Hannelore entered this life at the tail end of WWII, the daughter of Hans and Elfreide Stangl.
Hannelore was raised in Regen, (Bavaria) Germany and experienced the hardships of post war Europe as a child. This created a strong foundation of appreciation for the little things in life that most take for granted. One of her favorite stories was learning her first English phrase from an American officer who was occupying her town. "May I have a stick of chewing gum, please?" While working in Munich, Hannelore met and married US Army Captain, Henry "Hank" Fisher. She became an official Texan in 1968 upon their return to the US. They were married for 22 years and had two daughters, Heidi Michelle and Danielle Denise. The two divorced in 1987.
Hannelore entered the workforce full time after staying home and raising her girls. She landed her dream job as Marketing/Membership Director for the Houston NW Chamber of Commerce and enjoyed forging many friendships within the community. Her favorite event was the FM 1960 St. Patrick's Day Parade. While working at the chamber, she met William "Steve" Briggs and the two had an immediate connection. They were married in 1991 and together for 30 years. Their journey took them to Boston, Mass. and Newport Beach, CA as they followed Steve's career path. In Boston, she found her true calling and began selling cars. She sold for Audi, Volkswagen, Jaguar and her favorite . . . BMW. And in her true fashion, she made many more special connections with all of her customers. Steve and Hannelore returned to Houston in 2003, and everyone was thrilled to have her back in Texas. Hannelore retired from BMW North Houston in 2018. She was 74 years young.
Preceded in death by her parents; brother Wolfgang Stangl; and niece, Kristina Stangl, she is survived by her husband Steve Briggs; her daughters: Heidi Gwinn (husband Jimmy) & Danielle Fisher; grandchildren, Jordan Gwinn and Cameron Gwinn; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends. Her grandchildren will always remember her dinner toasts, baking German Christmas cookies, random phone calls just to see how they were doing, and her term of endearment, "Mausi."
An extra special thanks to best friends Judy Dusenbury, Guenther Heinemann, Doris Grundmeyer, LaHonda Mundy, John Miller, and Linda Belcher for their love, faithful friendship, and company during Oma's last weeks. The family is planning a Celebration of Life in January, with details to come.
Hannelore never met a stranger, loved with her whole heart, lit up a room whenever she entered, cared for all (no matter their status), and tried to find a little "German Connection" in everyone.
In lieu of customary remembrances, contributions in Hannelore's name may be directed to The American Stroke Association, The American Diabetes Association or to the animal rescue or charity of one's choice.
"BESTEST OMA EVER!!"
