Harry R. Matzig, 71, of Houston passed away May 21, 2023. Harry was born October 16, 1951, to Fritz and Beulah Matzig in Houston, Texas. He grew up playing little league baseball and graduated from Sam Houston High School in 1971. The United States Army drafted Harry into the Vietnam War where he proudly served his country. He was Honorably Discharged receiving many awards and accolades.
Upon his return home, Harry started a long career of over 49 years in Oil and Gas earning the respect and admiration from those he worked with while making life-long friendships. He took great pride in his work and providing for his family. Harry loved life and enjoyed playing golf, attending sporting events whether it be professional or one of his grandchildren's games, gardening, traveling, and spending time with his family and friends.
Harry was preceded in death by his parents, Fritz and Beulah (McKee) Matzig, his sister Treva, and his wife, the love of his life, Susi (Suzanne).
He is survived by his children, Tina Johnson (Terry), Michelle Holmes (Shaun), Brian Matzig, Patrick Matzig, and Kristen Norton (Richard); grandchildren, Hanna, Megan, Maddie, Ricky, Woody, Annie, and Penelope; brother and spouse, Richard and Jill Matzig; mothers-in-law Verna and Betty; brothers-in-law Joey and Deric; sisters-in-law Kim, Robyn, and Grey, and countless nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Harry will be greatly missed. He was a true patriot, a staunch Republican, and loved his country. He was so much fun! He will be remembered for his love and devotion to his family, his perseverance and strength, his love for life, and the joy he brought others.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Rockport, Texas. Date and time pending.
