Obituary

His life, his Legacy

Harry Richard Williams was born on June 22,1927 to Emma C.Osborne and Saul R. Williams in New Orleans, Louisiana.

He was raised by his grandmother due to his mother untimely death right after birth. He was the only child. His grandmother moved him to Houston, Texas at an early age. He attended Phillis High school. In 1944 he enlisted into the Army Air Force to serve his country. In the Army Air Force he worked as a military policeman and was known as a rifle sharpshooter. He was honorably discharged on August 7, 1946. In1946 he went from the military to college. He  attended The Texas College for Negros (Texas Southern University). There was only one building called the Fairchild building and the classes were in huts. Harry and Barbara Jordan were classmates and were one of the first students. Harry started his Christianity at 4th Missionary Baptist Church then later moved his membership to Second Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church under the late Arthur Ray Young. He was a faithful member and never missed a Sunday until he became ill. He enjoyed praising God and humming hymns. Harry enjoyed going to the Fifth Ward Multipurpose center to play dominoes where he  ran the tables and made many friends. Harry enjoyed hanging out in Fifth Ward underneath the tree and at the local barbershop. Harry hobbies were listening to 90.9 (KTSU), cooking, playing dominoes and going to church. Harry loved winning the hearts of the nurses and doctors who cared for him.

Harry is preceded in death by 3 wives and 1 grandson Jackie L. Morris II.

To cherish his memory of a life well lived he leaves a son Lorenzo Wayne Williams and three daughters, Pernella Faye Morris, Toriketa Carpenter and Felicia Mims (Donald). He leaves behind a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. He leaves behind many friends who loved him dearly.

Harry Richard Williams was a God fearing servant and his memories will linger in the hearts and mind of all who crossed his path throughout eternity.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, September 20, 2021 from 10:00am to 12:00pm at Second Mt. Olive Baptist Church located at 5214 Cavalcade St, Houston, TX 77026.  A burial will follow on Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at Houston National Cemetery at 10:15am in lane 2 with military honors.
