In Loving Memory
Hugh Brandon Warren
Sept. 30, 1940 – July 16, 2024
Hugh Brandon Warren, 83, of Houston passed away at Houston Methodist
Willowbrook Hospital on July 16, 2024. Hugh was born in Hurricane, Miss.,
on Sept. 30, 1940, to Mattie Mae (née Norwood) and Ernest Raymond
Warren.
He graduated from Marks High School in Marks, Miss., and studied at
Northwest Mississippi Junior College. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1960
during the Vietnam War. He served aboard the USS Lexington (CVA-16)
which played a key role as an attack carrier during the October 1962
Cuban Missile Crisis. Hugh also spent time on a humanitarian assignment
in South America.
Upon his honorable discharge in 1964 as a Radarman 2 nd Class (RD2), he
settled in Warren, Mich. Hugh married Mary Ellen (née Chrysler) of Capac,
Mich., in 1973 and built their home of some 30 years in Lake Fenton
Township, Mich. Together, with her two children from a previous marriage,
they had four children, Jeffrey Shayne Rohloff, Heidi Lolita Rohloff, Erica
Brandon (née Warren) Holloway, and Whitney Ellen Warren.
Hugh worked as a salesman in menswear and interior decor, and owned
and operated a successful flooring business. He earned his contractor's
license and made it a hobby of remodeling the family home. Hugh and his
family were members of the Lake Fenton Methodist Church where he sang
in the choir.
In 2006, Hugh and Mary Ellen relocated to Houston and lived near their
family where he continued to work and be involved in church. In recent
years, the loving husband and father traded in his sales career for that of
devoted grandfather and great grandfather.
Hugh is survived by his wife of 51 years, Mary Ellen; children Jeffrey (Tina)
of Willis, Erica (Robert) of Houston, and Whitney of San Diego;
grandchildren Karl, Kristen, and Kurt Rohloff, and Dagny and Viola
Holloway; great grandchild, Cole Wilson; siblings Wayne (Agnes), Charlie
(Jan), and Virginia Bonds. Hugh was predeceased by his parents, and
brothers James Paul and Calvin Benjamin (C.B.).
