Obituary

Jack LeRoy VanHesteren, 85, passed away peacefully on January 23, 2025.  Born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on March 26, 1939, he was the son of the late Marian Wagner DeHaan and John VanHesteren.  Jack grew up in Michigan and is a 1956 graduate of Grandville High School in Grandville, Michigan.

After high school, Jack joined the Army and faithfully served his country as a military policeman from 1956 to 1962.   After, he left the army, he continued his career in Security and Safety for firms in Michigan and Texas.

After Jack moved to Houston, he met the love of his life, Marilyn, who he married on December 5, 1982.  They joined First United Methodist Church in Houston where Jack was an active member in the choir at the West Campus.  Jack enjoyed get-togethers with friends and family and participated in senior bowling leagues. He was active in his community and spent many hours of his free time volunteering with the Citizen's on Patrol group in his neighborhood.
Jack also had a love of fishing, and often spent weekends on his fishing boat.

Jack is preceded in death by his wife Marilyn VanHesteren; his parents Marian Wagner DeHaan and John VanHesteren; his sister Gaylene Brownell; and his daughter Sally Werner.   He is survived by his sister Joyce Weinmann; his brother Allen DeHaan; his sons James and Thomas VanHesteren; his daughter Barbara Hoover and husband Dave; his grandchildren James, Pauline, Benjamin, and Sue VanHesteren and Alison and Philip Coombs;  and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
