James Everette Reed, III (Jim Reed) passed into Heaven to be reunited with his beloved wife, Tommie, on Saturday, November 7, 2020.  Jim was at his home in Clear Lake City, surrounded by his loving children, when he passed.  He was born on November 10, 1936, in Freeport, Texas, as the only child to Jimmy and Nina Reed.  Jim is preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Tommie Reed; parents Jimmy Reed & Nina Reed; uncle and aunt Fred Reed & Margaret Reed, aunt Marie Reed Morgan; aunt and uncle Nancy & Hugh Hicks; and cousin, Frances Hicks McDuff.  Jim leaves behind his three kids, Mike Reed, Steve Reed, and Rene' Reed Johnson; four grandkids, Ashley Cain, Alyssa Munson, Lydia Reed, and Wesley Reed; and, great-grandson, Oliver Cain.

In his younger years, Jim loved to fish and hunt, even winning the speckled trout division of the annual Freeport 4 th of July Fishin' Fiesta as a teenager.  He went to Brazosport School where he met the love of his life, Tommie Yerkes, who he married right after high school.  Jim also joined the Air Force shortly after high school, dutifully serving as an aircraft mechanic, stationed in Cheyenne, Wyoming, and later in Lake Charles, Louisiana.  After serving his country, Jim attended McNeese State University in Lake Charles, Louisiana.  Jim and Tommie then moved back to Freeport, where he worked at Dow Chemical for about five years, before being recruited to become an agent for State Farm Insurance.  Excited about this opportunity, they moved to a new community being developed near the new NASA Johnson Space Center, called Clear Lake City, where Jim began his 34 year career as a State Farm agent, and he and Tommie started a family, adopting three kids… Michael James Reed, Steven Presley Reed, and Rene' Michelle Reed.

In his is free time, Jim loved to play golf, and was extremely good at it.  He also loved coaching kids at baseball and football, and socializing after games with the other parents and coaches.  One of his great joys was taking his family on wonderful vacations across the continental US, to see and experience different states, parks, and attractions.  Jim was a lifelong devout Catholic,  helping to start three different parishes: St. Paul's Catholic Church in Nassau Bay, St. Bernadette's Catholic Church in Clear Lake City, and St. Clare of Assisi Catholic Church in Clear Lake City.  Jim was also a member of the Knights of Columbus for his entire adult life.

Jim Reed loved his family tremendously, leaving behind a solid legacy of strong belief in the things he held most dear: God, family, and country.
