IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jan Juhl
Hrivnatz
February 5, 1946 – January 5, 2025
(Lyla) Jan Juhl was born to Carrie Lou (Jones) and Lyle James "Jim" Juhl in Waterloo, Iowa on February 5, 1946. She spent parts of her childhood in San Angelo, Pecos and Abilene, Texas and her high school years in Ardmore, Oklahoma. Jan was popular in school, participating in theater and beauty pageants. Jan was known for her quick wit and humor. She made friends easily, many of them lifelong. In 1989, she served as Master of Ceremonies for the Ardmore High School class of 1964 25-year reunion.
She was a skilled home cook, serving up traditional southern comfort foods as well as French and other world cuisines. Nobody could make a burger as good as Jan. She was an avid foodie since the days of Julia Childs' The French Chef and even got to meet her idol at a book signing once. She was passionate about music and the performing arts. She participated in community theater with her friend Harry Brewer, served with the volunteers of the Houston Shakespeare Festival for over a decade, and played in bridge clubs with her friend Donald Johnson. She was a movie buff too and logged over 50 nights in the cinema in her movie journal one epic year. When Jan travelled, she loved ocean cruising with her cousin Sandra and many trips to Las Vegas with family.
Jan had a 40-year career in medical transcription. She authored numerous papers and presented at national conferences for the American Association for Medical Transcription.
Jan was married to Chip Reeves and David Hrivnatz. Jan is survived by her brothers Jimmy-T (and wife Penny) and Charlie (and wife Louise) Juhl; cousins Sandra Jeschke and Tommy and Johnny Jones; "nephew" David Jeschke (and wife Christine); niece Nikki (and husband Blake) Hancock and nephews Jimmy (and wife Jamie), Brian (and wife Ali), Josh (and fiancé Ann Marie), and Chase (and wife Kayla) Juhl; many beautiful grand nieces and nephews; her children Jennifer Robin Cameron (the funny one) and David Jay Hrivnatz (the architect); and her beloved grandson Scott Cameron. Honorable mentions include the in-laws and outlaws Terrie Juhl Botkin, Melinda Kam, Pat Bolt, and "her other son" Trey Barnette.
Jan was a lifelong lover of animals and her many feline and canine companions. In lieu of flowers, feel free to donate to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals https://www.aspca.org
