Jan Jornay Melchor, 79, passed away in her residence in Spring, TX on October 23, 2020 with her daughter, Teresea Murphy sitting by her side. She was born January 14, 1941 in Champagne, Illinois to Wilbert and Carolyn. Jan is preceded by her parents and her older sister Margaret Johnson. She leaves behind her three children; Tammy Burkett, Teresea Murphy and Michael Duncan; ex-husband Jerry Majewski; eight grandchildren, Jennifer Duncan, Michael Duncan JR, Erica and husband Zachary Gleason, Sarah Duncan, Tiffany Murphy, Tabitha and husband Jimmy Johnson, Clifton Bright, Dwight Bright; And great grandchildren, Dallas Murphy, Eloise Gleason, Blazden Murphy and Josie Fletcher-Bright.
Jan spent most of her life traveling for her job in construction and enjoyed living in so many places. She was one of the first women welders in her field. Everyone knew her as and called her Granny. She was a caring, generous soul who thrived on hard work and being outdoors. She had the most beautiful, well-kept gardens and some of her hobbies included wood working, ceramics, sewing and just about anything else that would keep her busy. If she wasn't working she was crocheting and watching her dancing or crime shows. It was hard for her to stay in one place for too long. She was the backbone of this family and the strongest woman we have ever known.
Jan will be cremated at the Graceful Memorial Chapel. As she requested no service will be held.
