Jan Jones
Beautiful, funny, compassionate, kind, well-liked, courageous, inspiring, talented, brave…..
Jannane Terease Rawlings Jones, 57, passed away October 16, 2021, surrounded by family at home. Jan's life ended where it began, in Texas. Born October 8, 1964, at Ft. Hood, Texas to Willis Henry Stuckey and Wanda Lee (Kneisley) Stuckey, Jan was an unexpected delight and truly the apple of her mother's eye. Her love of country music began naturally singing along with her sisters and gifted dad while he played his green electric guitar. As an Army brat Jan attended several schools before moving to Williamsville, MO. Jan graduated from Greenville High School in 1983. In Poplar Bluff, MO Jan worked at Kentucky Fried Chicken, Briggs & Stratton, and Starting USA. She began singing with her oldest sister, Suzy Stuckey at festivals, and retirement homes. Jan's love of music led her, her mom, and Grammy to move to Nashville where she wrote songs and often sang with a group of friends. A favorite waitress, bartender, and manager at Sam's Sports Grill in Nashville, Jan served the rich and famous and the not so famous equally. Her quick wit and inviting personality made her a sought-after karaoke DJ and led her to make hundreds of friends worldwide through the Covet Fashion game. Needing to be closer to home to care for her mother Jan waited tables at O'Charley's in Dickson, TN until she was too sick to work. For more than 20 years, and even after Jan became ill, she cared for her mom, Wanda Stuckey, in a house filled with antiques and treasures found at flea markets and a couple of cats. Jan's greatest joy was being Mom to Michael Rawlings and Steve Jones and Grandma Jan to Declan, Madi, Audri, Haven and the soon-to-be-born Lorelai Terease. A caring and generous mother-in-law, Jan was loved dearly by Danya Jones and Angel Rawlings. Jan wanted nothing more than to shower her grandchildren with gifts and with the help of Amazon, Grandma Jan played Santa year-round.
The serious nature of Jan's illness and Wanda's bad health led them to move back to Texas and live with Dianne and Randy Killian in January 2020. The entire Killian family rallied around Jan providing love, care, and comfort. Even during this lengthy battle Jan could make any situation lighter with a few chosen words. Diagnosed with stage 4 Ovarian Cancer in July 2019, she fought valiantly. Jan wants everyone to know that the symptoms of Ovarian Cancer are usually overlooked. Her symptoms included bloating, indigestion, back pain, frequent urination, and constipation. She ignored them for far too long and regretted it daily. When she did seek medical help, she was ignored for months until in desperation she went to the ER and a dedicated nurse in White Bluff, TN listened. A CT was ordered showing masses on an ovary, intestines, bladder, lungs, and liver. Immediately transported to Sarah Cannon Cancer Center her intense fight began.
Jan is survived by two amazing sons, Michael Rawlings, daughter-in-law Angel, grandson Declan; and Steve Jones, daughter-in-law Danya, granddaughters Madi, Audri, Haven, Lorelai Terease; mother Wanda Stuckey, father Willis H Stuckey, step-mother Ellen, sister Suzy Running-Hawk, brother-in-law Dennis, sister Dianne Killian, brother-in-law Randy, favorite cousin Greg Stuckey, several aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, nieces, great nephews and great nieces, friends worldwide including Brenda Shearrer, Allan Hunt, Adam Nickas, Maha Robert, and her cuddle buddy, Katniss.
