John Allen Haden Jr., age 79, passed peacefully at home with his family by his side on February 3, 2022, in Houston, Texas. John was born November 28, 1942 in Houston, Texas to John and Cecilia Vacek Haden and was a graduate of Stephen F. Austin High School. While growing up, John enjoyed spending summers at his grandparents' farm in Schulenberg, Texas with his large extended family. This is where he learned his love for farming and Czech country picnics.
John started his career in the newspaper business at the early age of twelve with his first paper route. He worked for the Houston Press while attending the University of Houston until he was drafted and proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Following his time served, John returned back to Houston and continued his career in the newspaper business and worked at the Houston Post and Houston Chronicle as an independent distributor in Northwest Houston for over forty years.
John had a passion for watching Houston sports and especially his two grandsons' sports, mowing the lawn on his tractor, eating out, traveling and spending time with his family.
John is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Nancy Haden; daughter and son-in-law, Christi and Stephen Hollis of Cypress, Texas; two grandsons, Brantley Haden Hollis and William Brady Hollis. He is preceded in death by his parents.
John will be laid to rest at the Houston National Cemetery in honor of his military service. The service will be on Friday 2/11/2022 at 9:15am in lane 2 with arrival at 9am. Please arrive strictly at 9am if you would like to attend his service.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be given in honor of John Allen Haden Jr. to the American Cancer Society (cancer.org).
