John Carroll Hoberg
1925 - 2021
John, 96, was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, son, brother and a dear
friend to many people. He passed away peacefully at home after bravely battling blood cancer
on August 16, 2021.
The son of John A. Hoberg and Karen Finnestad. John graduated from Tolt High School in
Carnation, Washington in 1943. Upon graduation at the age of 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine
Corps and spent his time in the South Pacific. John was Honorably Discharged with disability in
November 1944 with 3 Purple Hearts, 2 Silver Stars, 1 Navy Cross and 1 Meritorious Service
Medal. Once discharged, he went to the University of Washington and pledged the ATO house.
In 1952, he joined the Seattle Police Department and the Army Reserve. John had many
assignments as a Police Officer: Detective, Aide to the Mayor, Patrol Officer and finally the first
Officer Friendly and a member of The JP Patches Show. He retired as a Colonel in the Army in
1980, after the passing of his only son.
John married Bette Jean Cassidy in June 1956. They had two children, Carol Jean and John
Joseph. The last 41 years of his life was spent in retirement. He enjoyed spending time with his
family, traveling and daily exercise. He has always been the "Rock" in our family and will be
greatly missed.
John is preceded in death by his son, John, loving wife, Bette, as well as 4 brothers, 1 sister and
his parents.
John is survived by his brother Jerome Nikolai Hoberg, daughter Carol and her husband Bill
Thue. Granddaughters: Shannon (Jay) Bussey and Andrea (Stephan) Lewis. Great
granddaughters: Kayla and Kaitlyn Bussey and Kinsley Lewis.

Mountain View Cemetery in Auburn, Washington, 2020 Mountain View Drive.
John was a family man who always put his girls first.
The love and memories he gave us will live in our hearts forever.
