IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Kristina
Alvarez
December 23, 1968 – August 1, 2021
Kristina Cox-Alvarez was born on December 23, 1968 in St. Louis Missouri to Robert and Sylvia Cox. They had waiting a long time for a child and previously lost a son shortly after his birth so Kristina's arrival was joyous. The family lived in St. Louis until Kristina was 5 and then moved to California. They settled in the small town of Glennville and Kristina attended school at Linns Valley Elementary. The family later moved to Clovis where Kristina attended junior high school at Kastner Intermediate. Several more moves took her to Sierra High School, Madera High School and finally Clovis West High School where she graduated in 1987. Kristina played the flute and enjoyed band and at several schools she attended in addition to competing in cross country track and field.
After high school Kristina attended community college courses and then decided to move south with friends to the Los Angeles area. It was there that she met Mark Meier whom she became engaged to and married at Mt Carmel Community Church on February 4, 1990. Mark and Kristina were blessed with three beautiful children. Joshua Robert Meier 1991, Kaitlin Christine Meier 1994 and finally Jacob Mark Meier 2001. Kristina enjoyed her children's sports, academic and musical pursuits very much and was so proud of all of them.
Kristina worked for various businesses throughout the years as an accounts receivable manager. She enjoyed her work and many friendships made along the way. She was a devoted aunt and daughter and never missed a holiday or special occasion for each of them. She was very talented and could paint and draw just about anything. Always the family photographer, she took so many cherished pictures that we all hold very dear. Her holiday decorations were always fabulous and much enjoyed by all.
After the end of her marriage, Kristina reconnected with many friends whom she cherished from her days in school. This was a wonderful time in her life and she made many great memories with each of them. Kristina also enjoyed trips to the local mountains and especially Yosemite. It was also during this time that Kristina met the love of her life, Randy Alvarez. Randy was a local sheriff and the two were an instant match. They were engaged and then married on March 14, 2015 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Clovis California. Both were elated and had a wonderful honeymoon and subsequent years of happiness together.
Kristina was diagnosed with cancer in April of 2018. It was a recurrence of melanoma that she had at age 27 when a skin lesion was removed. This time the cancer had developed in her lung. It was removed and she started various cancer treatments in order to keep the cancer at bay. Unfortunately over time it had begun to spread. Kristina was told of a clinical trial at MD Anderson Cancer center in Houston Texas and she applied for treatment there and was accepted into the program. Kristina and Randy moved to Texas and she began bi weekly treatments there in the clinical trial. She completed over 30 weeks of this treatment and along the way helped many others find help in the same program.
She was a light to many people suffering with cancer and gave hope to anyone she made contact with that they could survive beyond what was expected. Kristina passed into the loving arms of our lord and savior Jesus Christ on August 1 st , 2021. She was preceded in death by her father Robert Cox.
