Obituary

Lan was the heart of her family and a radiant presence to all who knew her. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. Her life was anchored in family, service to her community, and to fulfill a lifetime of happiness.

In the summer of 1975, Lan arrived in the United States from Vietnam eight and a half months pregnant with Teresa. She carried not only a new life, but extraordinary courage and hope for the American dream, like so many Vietnamese immigrants seeking a better future for their families. She and her husband first settled in Albert Lea, Minnesota, determined to build that dream. After enduring the cold winter, they moved to Port Arthur, TX, where the warmer weather would allow Lan and her family to settle and thrive in the community.

Determined and self-driven, Lan taught herself English and later secured a position at the Port Arthur City Health Clinic as a Nurse’s Aide and a Vietnamese translator. She became a trusted advocate, helping Vietnamese patients navigate the healthcare system with compassion, dignity, and care. To her, it was never just a job it was service from her heart.

Family was always Lan’s highest priority. As the mother of five children, she insisted on daily sit-down family dinners. This sacred time was for connection, sharing, and staying grounded together as family always came first. Those dinners became treasured memories and a lasting foundation of love, discipline, and unity that her children carry with them today.

Lan had an undeniable presence. Always impeccably dressed, she carried herself with confidence and grace. Professional and polished at work, radiant and joyful at gatherings, she embraced her own unique style often adorned in sparkling jewelry that reflected her vibrant spirit. She didn’t dress up out of vanity, but as a celebration of life itself. She shined as she loved life.

After moving to Houston, Lan built a successful career in marketing for health diagnostic centers. She worked tirelessly within the Vietnamese community, ensuring patients received proper care and insurance assistance. Her dedication touched countless lives.

Lan embraced life fully. Her days were filled with purpose and hard work; her weekends were spent with friends, sharing meals, laughter, and dancing the night away with karaoke always on the agenda. She loved deeply, laughed freely, and lived boldly.

A strong-willed and resilient woman, Lan raised her children to pursue success and happiness with determination and integrity. In 2018, she showed that same strength when she bravely fought and overcame stage IV lung cancer. She lived in remission for eight years, which demonstrated a powerful testament to her unwavering spirit.

Lan leaves behind her husband of 58 years, five children, eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, four sisters, two brothers and many beloved nieces and nephews. Her legacy lives on through the family she cherished, the community she served, and the countless lives she touched with her generosity, strength, elegance, and sparkle.

She will be deeply missed and forever remembered for her boundless love, her resilience, her grace, and the light she brought into every room she entered.
