Obituary

Lester Harvel Talton was an admirable example of dedication to the woman he held most dear, Sandra Kaye Talton, asking his son James in his final words to "Take Care of Mom." He loved family above all else. Lester, who lived for 25 years in Tennyson, Texas, left this legacy when he passed away surrounded by family on April 10, 2022.

Lester (Les) met the love of his life Sandra in 1963 when he was stationed at Goodfellow Air Force Base in San Angelo.  With his '60 Black Ford, he won over Sandra and her sisters with his humor and fancy ride. Shortly after Sandra and Les were married at College Hills Baptist Church, the Air Force stationed them at Mountain Home Air Force Base, Idaho, where they gave birth to their first son James. After Lester's honorable discharge from the Air Force, he worked as a cook at Youngbloods Fried Chicken. After his mother was killed in a driving accident in Dallas, Texas, he moved his family to be near his step-dad, Tommy. After moving to Mesquite, they completed their family by having Jason and then Jeff.

Les was a caring father, setting an example to his sons by instilling selfless work ethic and responsibility in caring for his loved ones. Les once worked 3 jobs to make ends meet, making it possible for Sandra to stay home and be a mom. His most influential work was at Spaghetti Warehouse in Dallas and Fort Worth where he designed the menu and managed the kitchen. When his step-dad Tommy passed away, the family relocated to Sandra's home town, San Angelo, Texas, where Lester owned his own business Talton's Steamway. He later purchased a portion of the James Family property in Tennyson, where they were neighbors to Sandra's parents Katie and James Chambers. For the last 25 years, he has dedicated his life to caring for Sandra and maintaining the property at Tennyson, as well as playing pranks on his grandkids. He is remembered by his love to cook, especially a breakfast buffet with waffles, dinners with chicken parmesan and for his enjoyment of working outside.

Les is survived by his loving wife of 58 years Sandra; his son James and his wife Melissa and their three children Hannah, Hope, and Jameson; his son Jason and his domestic partner Michele Gibbons and his daughter Meagan; his son Jeff and his wife Lynn and his children Jordan and Victoria; his great granddaughter Olivia Grace; and cousin Sylvia.
