IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lillie Maye
Hunt
October 25, 1931 – October 16, 2022
Lillie "Maye" Hunt, 90, of Houston, Texas passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 16, 2022. Maye
was born in Normangee, Texas, to Roy Charles and Allie Viola Corley. She grew up in Pasadena, Texas,
the second of five children.
Maye married William Walker when she was sixteen. Their brief marriage resulted in the birth of
Theresa Ann Walker in 1948. When Theresa was just a toddler, she befriended Thomas Jefferson Hunt
while she and Maye were living in a boarding house in the Oak Cliff area of Dallas. She introduced her
mother to the man who would become Maye's husband and Theresa's "daddy." Maye and Tom were
married on November 4, 1951. Diana Lynn Hunt was born in 1953 and completed the family. Maye and
Tom shared 50 years together before his passing in 2002.
Maye was an accomplished artist. She painted with oils and acrylics, but watercolors were her specialty.
And flowers, plants, and landscapes were her favorite subjects. In addition, she was a master of stained
glass, creating beautiful lamps, panels, windows, and fireplace screens. Her artistic talent was also
expressed through her landscaping skills. She worked tirelessly in her gardens which were a sight to
behold.
Her love and knowledge of plants combined with her artistic abilities led to a successful career in green
nurseries, floral arranging, and landscape design before she and Tom realized their dream in 1985 and
retired to the Ozark Mountains. After years of visiting the area and staying in the rustic cabin on the land
they purchased, they built a home and settled into the rural community. Maye and Tom lived there for
seventeen years with Maye returning to Houston after Tom's death to be near family and friends.
Over the course of her life, Maye was an active member of several Baptist congregations as well as
Mountain Bible Church in Washburn, Missouri, and Cypress Fellowship in Cypress, Texas. She was a
regular at bible studies and potluck dinners, contributed to mission efforts, decorated the church for
Christmas and Easter, and was involved in nearly every aspect of church life.
Maye is survived by her daughter Diana Hunt of Houston, Texas; her grandchildren: Shannon McNeil and
her husband Jeff McNeil of Austin, Texas; Dan Landry of Houston, Texas; Cathy Weathers of Houston,
Texas; Amy Hannan and her husband Drew Hannan of Houston, Texas; Thomas Weathers and his wife
