M. Irene Smith, "Irene", age 91, passed from this life Thursday, August 12, 2021. She was a former resident of Ohio, and was number 10 of 11 children, and was given the nickname "Pete" by one of her brothers, and was "Aunt Pete" to her many nieces and nephews. She was a graduate of Franklin High School, Franklin, Ohio, class of 1948. She was married to Rev. Joseph Smith (Church of God - Anderson, Indiana) for 42 years, during which time raised 5 children, lead and participated in many Women of the Church of God groups and Missionary Societies. She taught many Bible studies throughout her life and was known for her quick witted humor and wisdom. She lived her last 17 years in Houston, Texas. She was an active member of the "Saints Alive" group at Metropolitan Baptist Church and was the official "joke teller" for their weekly Bible studies. Her greatest joy was her family. She was a mother of 5, Grandmother of 10 and Great-Grandmother of 10.

Preceded in death by her parents, Cora Blake Bowles and Nathan Bowles, her 10 siblings, her former husband, and her son Bruce Aaron Smith.

She is survived by her daughter, Becky J Witker and her husband Jim, her son Dr. Paul G Smith, son Peter M. Smith and his wife Cherie,  and daughter Amy K Barnhart and her husband Michael and their families.

A Memorial Service will be held in her honor at 10 a.m., Thursday, August 26, 2021 in the Student Building of the Metropolitan Baptist Church ("The Met"), 12851 Jones Rd, Houston, TX 77070. Her final resting place will be Hamilton, Ohio, where she will be laid to rest with her parents.
