My mother, my best friend, Maria Avila Luna went to be with our lord and savior on May 18,2021. She was born on October 25, 1928 in Crockett, Texas to Romoulo Cuellar Luna and Cruz Avila. She passed at home surrounded by her loving family as she wanted at the age of 92 in Houston, Texas.
She is proceeded in death by her first husband Juan Nuncio and second husband Antonio Cortez, her son Paul Cortez, grandson Ruben Nuncio Jr and her sister Theodora Carrion.
Maria is survived by her children, grandchildren and great grandchild by both of her beloved late husbands. Linage is as follows: Her beloved late husband Juan Nuncio in which she had three children with him: Isabel Nuncio, Ruben Nuncio, Toni Nuncio Verastegui and spouse Roel Verastegui.
Her beloved late husband Antonio Cortez: her children are as follows: Vicky Cortez Irigoyen and spouse Mario Irigoyen, Michael Cortez and spouse Rhonda Cortez, daughter-n-law Candis Cortez, 15 grandchildren, Melissa Irigoyen, Mario Irigoyen Jr and spouse Daniella Galvan, Christopher Martinez, Valarie Mechler and spouse Antonio Mechler, John Martinez and spouse Gina Martinez, Sandra Verastegui Meyer and spouse Jeff Meyer, Jessica Verastegui Rodriguez and spouse Luis Rodriguez, Roel Verastegui Jr and spouse Brenda, Ruben Nuncio Jr and spouse Jessica Nuncio, Eric Nuncio and spouse Leslie Nuncio, Kristol Nuncio Moreno and spouse Jesse Moreno, Robert Luna and Spouse Natalie Luna, Melanie Cortez, Kimberly Cortez and Stephanie Cortez, Anna 'Andy' Cortez, Brittany and Josh Chavez and 32 great grandchildren.
She enjoyed the outdoors and planting plants in her garden at her home. She also enjoyed music and singing with her great grandchildren. She will be dearly missed.
