Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Marilyn Sue Monroe announces her passing on Monday, January 27th, 2020 at the age of 72. Marilyn Sue Monroe (Mitchell), known as Sue to family and friends, was born to Lillian Rudell Mitchell and Robert Theron Mitchell on June 3, 1947 in Jasper, Alabama. Her family moved to the Houston area when she was a teenager, where she continued to make the Houston area her home. She eventually settled in New Caney with her husband Rick Monroe.
We remember Sue as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, sister in law, and loyal friend.
Sue was very outgoing and never met a stranger. Her quick wit and beautiful smile affected everyone around her. She was very intelligent, full of energy and life. She was compassionate and would always help those in need.
She loved being with her husband, loved ones, and friends around the water, whether it was jumping in the waves at the beach, splashing around in the creek, or floating down the Guadalupe River. Being born with a green thumb, her home always blossomed with plants. Her favorite flower was the gardenia. The fragrance of her many gardenia bushes will forever bring a sweet memory to mind.
Being a very talented artist, she created many beautiful paintings, but she delighted most in painting with her grandchildren. Whether at a school function, birthday party, or festival, she brought happiness to many people with her face painting talent.
She is survived by her husband of 34 years, Ricky Lynn Monroe, her three children, Stephanie Renee and husband Charles Alan Gotcher, Melissa Ann Duncan, Jeffrey Dale Pate, and stepson Eli Johnathon Monroe. She is survived by her six grandchildren, Rachel Nicole Duncan, Micah Jared Duncan and spouse Ginger Loper, Jakob Everette Gotcher, Emily Gibson and spouse Seth Gibson, Hanna Renee Gotcher, and Matthew Ryan Duncan, and two great grandchildren Olivia Renee Carrillo, and Cade Micah Duncan.
Sue is also remembered by many dear nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and dear friends.
Sue is preceded in death by her grandmother Ruby Loraine Knopp, mother Lillian Rudell Mitchell, father Robert Theron Mitchell, sister Glenda Carolyn Weaver, brother William Theron Mitchell, brother-in-law Leslie Weaver, and niece Melinda Sue Lane.
She will never know how much she is already missed by those who love her.
