Obituary

A Catholic Funeral Mass for Maxine M. Merryman will be held at 10:00am on Friday, December 15th, 2023 at St. Anne Catholic Church, 2140 Westheimer Rd, with Father David J. Zapalac officiating.

Maxine passed away peacefully in her assisted living residence on December 5th, 2023 at the age of 87.  She was born in Bremond, Texas on September 28, 1936.  She lived the majority of her life in Houston and in San Antonio.

Her career was in the insurance industry for 40+ years.  She was very business oriented and took pride in her management accomplishments.  In her early retirement years, she thoroughly enjoyed working with the medical students at The University of Texas as a "standardized patient" helping to educate the medical students in patient protocol.  She also worked at H&R Block for several tax seasons well into her 80's.    Her primary focus in retirement was her charity work associated with her much loved Catholic Parish in Houston, St. Anne's. She looked forward to assisting in counting collections every Monday for 10+years and to seeing her many friends and priests at St. Anne's.  She was also a member of St. Anne's Guild, a ministry of women to service the parish, serving God through commitment and uniting members through prayer, work and service.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Willie Zabawa, by her brother, Mike Zabawa, by her son Mark Merryman and by her grandson Justin Merryman.

She is survived by her three sons: Ron Merryman and wife Helen, Les Merryman and wife Erin, and William Merryman and husband David Newton.  She is also survived by her daughter in law Geri Merryman.  In addition, she is survived by her 7 grandchildren:  Chad Merryman, Courtney Merryman, Hailey Merryman, Lauren Adolph, Kristen Williams, Tina Davis and Stefanie Mueller and by her 9 great grandchildren.  And lastly but not least, by her beloved dog, Rocky, and her special friends Kent Heuter and Ginger Bowen.

Maxine wanted to be remembered as being happy and as loving her family unconditionally.

In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to St. Anne Catholic Church.
