Melvin Brooks Sr, Franklin, Louisiana native, was born on May 24, 1948, to the late Alex Brooks and Flora Smith Brooks. On Sunday, July 21, 2024 he transitioned with the Lord from Houston, Texas.

Throughout his life, he was employed at the State Highway Department. He dedicated many years of service to the Port Arthur Independent School District as a member of the custodial team.

He was a loving, kind, and fun-filled dad, brother, uncle, and friend to all who knew him. His memory will forever be cherished as a testament to his wonderful character.

A man of simple pleasures, Melvin found joy in the company of his loved ones, the sizzle of a grill for bbq, and the tranquility of fishing, gardening,and listening to old school music. His legacy is one of warmth, laughter, and cherished memories.

Melvin's life and legacy will continue through his children: Melvin Brooks Jr of Katy, Texas; Laurie Brooks of Houston, Texas, and Lori Brooks-Bryant (LaDerrick) of Spring, Texas. He is also survived by one sister, Mary Ann Eley of Brooklyn, New York; one brother Allen Charles Brooks as well as six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Additionally, he is survived by various brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alex Brooks and Flora Smith Brooks, grandparents, five sisters; Barbara Brooks, Myrtle Williams, Hazel Brooks, LeLia Mae Brooks, and Edna Guillory; three brothers: Spencer Brooks Sr., Ellis Brooks Sr. and Thomas Brooks Sr.
