Obituary

Reverend Michael 'Papa' Catalano passed away peacefully on September 21, 2021 in Houston, Texas surrounded by his beloved grandchildren. He was born in Chicago, Illinois on May 1, 1940.

Papa followed his passions and lived a fascinating life.  At 17 he joined the US Navy, then pursued his Bachelor of Sciences degree from The University of Southern Colorado and a Master of Arts in Psychology from Adams State College. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to many different occupations – architect, psychologist and business owner of WaterFeatures, a custom design pool company. After reentering the US Navy at 50 years old and serving in the Persian Gulf, he was called to ministry. He received his diploma from the Unity School of Christianity in 1994 and later opened his own church, Chapel of the Doves. Through ministry, he found a way to calm those around him and display his love for others. He had a wonderful giving heart and an amazing sense of humor. In his down time, he enjoyed painting, duck hunting, fishing and traveling. He was so loved by his entire family and will be truly missed.

He is preceded in death by his loving parents, Michael and Sylvia Catalano. He leaves behind his only daughter, Michele Karlskind and his beloved grandchildren, Tiffany Catalano, Kristyn Willson, Travis Karlskind, Tyler Karlskind, Great-Grandchildren – Darrell Dunmore, Braden Turnbough; Aedyn Beeler; Elliott, Miles and Eevie Karlskind and Great-Great-Granddaughter Hazel Dunmore.

A celebration of life will be held on Monday, October 18, 2021 at 10:00 am at Unity Church located at 2929 Unity Drive, Houston, Texas 77057. A burial will follow Monday, October 18, 2021 at the Houston National Cemetery with gate time of 1:45 pm in Lane 2 with military honors.

Per his wishes he would like to join his parents in the "waters of life" in Buena Vista Colorado, Cottonwood Lake at a later date.

The love of the human heart is the most real

and the most beautiful of all realities we know…

That love once born can never die

for it has become part of us, of our life

woven into the very texture of our being.
