Obituary

Miles Aldon Lawson, Sr, age 83 passed from this life to the next on Thursday, July 1, 2021 in Kingwood, Texas.  He was born on July 2, 1937 in Columbus, Ohio to parents Opie and Molly (McCroskey) Lawson.

Miles spent a honorable 8 years serving our country, 4 with the US Marines WPN'S Co. 3rd 9th 3rd. division comm.PLT S.E. Asia and then went on to complete another 4 with the US Army.  He worked as a Radio Operator and Communications during his military service.  That led to him working for the telephone company as a Cable Splicer.  After some time he returned to service by graduating for the Academy at Rose Hills, California and became a police officer.  He spent the majority of his officer career working for the Delaware City Sheriffs Office, the US Marshals and the Court of Los Angles.  Miles was known to most by his nickname Sonny.  He was a lifetime member of the VFW, American Legion Moose and many other organizations.  The plethora of hobbies he enjoyed were fishing, camping, bowling, plunking, visiting with all his Marine buddies and family whom he LOVED TO SKYPE.  He was the most kind and generous person you could have met.  He was loved not only by his wife and family but by all who had the honor to be a part of his incredible journey we call life.  His passing has left a hole in our hearts and Sonny will be truly missed.  It was a blessing to be a part of his world and we are thankful we had the opportunity to share it with him.

Sonny is survived by his adoring wife of almost 56 years, Phyllis A. (Simmons) Lawson, their 5 children, Michael, Judy, Sandra, Russell and Miles Jr. (TK), 12 grand children, 22 great grand children and many nieces and nephews.

Miles was a seventeen years member of the church of Redondo Hills in California.

A military service will be scheduled at the Houston National Cemetery with military honors.  Gate time and dates to be updated.
