Monica Alvarez Flores passed peacefully on Wednesday, May 31st, 2023.

Monica was born in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico, on February 19, 1972, to Guadalupe Flores Martinez and Jesus Alvarez Cruz.

Monica left her hometown, and her extended family, to bring her children to the United States in 2004 in pursuit of the "American Dream." She instilled humility, grit, and perseverance in her children.

Monica will be remembered by her laughs, cooking, and most importantly, her perseverance.

Monica is preceded in death by Ines Martiniano Alvarez Flores, Ana Maria Alvarez Flores, and Marielena Tovar Flores. She is survived by her siblings—Olga Alvarez Flores, Sofia Alvarez Flores, Ivone Alvarez Flores, Guadalupe Alvarez Flores, Daniel Tovar Flores, Esperanza Alvarez Valdez—and her four children, Diego, Josue, Jesus, and Angelina, as well as her first grandchild, Xóchitl.

Monica's Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, June 17th, at 3:00 pm CST at the South Main Baptist Church Youth Center located at 4100 Main Street. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Women's Home. You can find more information about this organization here:
