Obituary

Owen William Davies, 32, of Houston, Texas passed from this life on February 3, 2022, after a courageous battle with colorectal cancer.

Owen William Davies was born in Rocky Mountain House, Alberta, Canada, on May 9, 1989. He grew up in a small town but always had big dreams. He played all the sports he could as well as played in the band, performed in drama and community musical productions, and worked part-time as a golf course cook. He excelled at school and had many friends.

He really loved basketball, and because he wasn't particularly tall, he learned to be a fast and annoying point guard. He attended a camp every summer hosted by NBC (Northwest Basketball Camp) whose "mission is to equip every camper with the intrinsic tools to rise above any challenge, to overcome any adversity on or off the court".'

Owen took this to heart and completed the Golden Ruler challenge when he was 17. This involved meeting training goals, but also personal goals. He signed a card stating that "from this day forth I commit to pursuing excellence in all areas of my life. . . I choose to diligently work to become brave, kind, self-disciplined and grateful." Little did his family know how much he would make this a part of his life.

After working for a year after high school, he received a soccer scholarship offer to Delta State University in Cleveland, Mississippi. He made some great friends, learned tough discipline from his coach and completed a degree in International Business with a minor in French. He also met Megan, and they married after his move to Houston to complete his Master's in Business Administration.  Houston had such an appeal to Owen with his interest in Oil and Gas and his larger-than-life dreams.

After a chance encounter at a soccer game, Owen found consulting work at MRE in Houston. He really enjoyed this work and the opportunity to travel business class. This continued when he moved on to Accenture. His colleagues and clients appreciated the challenges and solutions he offered as a management consultant.

Owen loved continuing to grow his hockey skills with the Tropics and Cobra Kai. He went skiing every winter with his sister and played golf every chance he got. He wanted to make sure he optimized all of his miles and reward programs. He always dreamed big!

Megan and Owen made many friends in Houston and supported several charities by attending galas and taking action when possible.  Life was always a party and an adventure.   Owen rode to Austin to support MS and ran to support Colorectal Cancer.

A cancer diagnosis did not really change his life. For the first year, he travelled to Chicago every other week for work. He always had a trip planned for the future to look forward to. Owen wrote over 60 posts on Caring Bridge describing his journey and how he wanted people to treat him. He was Owen first. Cancer did not define him.

Owen will be remembered for many things. He lived life "outside of the box" always curious, never fearful, and always hopeful. He has fought the good fight. He has finished the race.

Owen is survived by his wife, Megan Chamberlin Frazier Davies of Houston; his parents, Peter and Wendy Davies of Rocky Mountain House, Alberta, Canada; his sister, Melissa Davies (Cole), of Athens, Ohio; his grandmothers, Terry Ridley and Joyce Davies; his in-laws Joe and Terry Frazier of Grenada, MS; his sister-in-law, Josey Frazier Hutchins (Drew) of Memphis, TN, as well as many family and friends.

A special thanks is extended to Dr. Yuval Raizen of Oncology Consultants for his compassionate and extraordinary medical care for Owen over his 2.5 year cancer battle; Dr. Steven Curley, Dr. Scott Kopetz, and the many incredible people in the Texas Medical Center who fought alongside Owen.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Colon Cancer Coalition or another charity of your choice.

A celebration of his life will be held Wednesday, February 9, 2022, at Bayou City Fellowship-Spring Branch, at 1:00 p.m. CST in Houston, TX. It will be live streamed.

Memorial Services will be held at a later date in Canada and Mississippi.
