IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Peter Shawn
Sellers
January 16, 1960 – April 10, 2020
Peter 'Pete' Shawn Sellers, age 60, passed away in Houston, Texas on April 10, 2020. He was born January 16, 1960 in Dallas, Texas to Frank and Jane Sellers. He grew up in Malvern, Arkansas, one of six children.
Peter was an Air Force veteran, serving at Little Rock Air Force Base, as a Security Specialist. He later served as a police officer with the De Queen Police Department in De Queen, Arkansas and with the Fort Smith Police Department in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Peter went on to earn a bachelor's degree in psychology, from the University of Arkansas as well as a Juris Doctor degree, from the University of Arkansas School of Law.
Peter then had a successful career as a Director of Human Resources. He was honored to receive the NASA Space Flight Awareness Silver Snoopy Award on July 27, 2006, while he was employed with United Space Alliance, in Houston, Texas. This prestigious award was presented to Peter on July 27, 2006, at Johnson Space Center, by Astronaut José M. Hernandez. The Silver Snoopy recognizes outstanding performance, contributing to flight safety and mission success and, because it is the astronauts' own award, it is always presented by an astronaut. The Silver Snoopy is a special honor, being awarded, annually, to less than 1% of the aerospace program workforce. This was an honor that Pete was especially proud to receive.
Pete was preceded in death by his mother, Jane Sellers and his sister, Mary Jane Sellers.
Pete is survived by one daughter, Savannah Lynne Sellers Vandiver and son-in-law, James, of Irving, Texas; his friend and former wife, Theresa Sellers, of De Queen, Arkansas; his long-time partner and best friend, Valerie Garza, of Houston, Texas; four brothers, Stephen, of Atoka, Tennessee; Michael, of Prattsville, Arkansas; Charles, of Malvern, Arkansas; and McGee, of Vandervoort, Arkansas; and one sister, Paulette Collier, of Hope, Arkansas, as well as a number of nieces and nephews.
Pete loved sports, especially baseball, and was an avid, life-long Los Angeles Dodgers fan, and, probably, bled Dodger blue. He got to attend game 4 of the World Series in 2017, and enjoyed watching the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Houston Astros. He occasionally went to Los Angeles, to see the Dodgers on their home field at Dodger Stadium. He sometimes joked that he wanted to be laid to rest on the field, at Dodger Stadium. Pete was also an Arkansas Razorback fan and enjoyed watching Razorback football and basketball.
Pete had an appreciation of music, often sharing his favorite songs with family and friends and he frequently attended concerts. He was also a movie fan, with his favorite all-time movie being Cool Hand Luke.
To honor Pete's memory, there will be a private ceremony for immediate family.
