Phyllis Dee Thompson Ross, an amazing wife and mother, was called home to be with her Savior in the morning hours of May 16, 2022; after more than a year long hard fought battle with multiple cancers. She was surrounded by loved ones in her final days.
Phyllis was born July 2, 1959 in Indianapolis, Indiana to parents Fred and Sandra Thompson. Phyllis was the second oldest of six children, and the oldest girl. As part of a large family, Phyllis often prided herself on being an integral part in her younger siblings lives.
After graduating. Arsenal Technical High School in 1977, she met her forever love Clark Ross lll, and married on October 13, 1979. The early years in their marriage took them from Indianapolis to just outside Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for the next 20 years. That is where in 1982, Phyllis and Clark, welcomed their only child, Kristen Schaefer.
Phyllis was a huge supporter of her daughter in competitive dance. She often worked two jobs to make it a possibility for her young daughter to train. That support extended into more recent years as well where Phyllis worked part time for five years, at her daughter's dance studio, as the studio manager. Nothing made her more happy than seeing her daughter in action doing what she loved and being there to watch it all. She was a lover of all things dance and enjoyed watching her dance kids grow in technique and talent each year. The studio was her happy place.
Phyllis has also been a full time employee for the last 19 years at Blue Cross Blue Shield. A job she met many friends who became like family, and awarded her the opportunity to work from home.
Phyllis and Clark last October celebrated their 42nd wedding anniversary. They loved to travel, eat out, and be with their family. In 2013 they moved to the Kingwood area to be closer to their daughter and her young family.
One of Phyllis' greatest joys was being a "Mimi". The day her grandsons were born, she was in love. She was fortunate to spend almost every day with them the last 6 years. The boys were light of her life. In her final days she was so excited when the hospital finally let the boys in to see and hug her. It was her favorite surprise.
Phyllis was gentle, kind, and had a knack for making each person she came in contact with feel like the most special person in the room. She loved deeply, and wanted others to feel loved. Even in her final days she was making sure her loved ones knew how loved they are. The family has even received calls from people checking up on them, because Phyllis asked them to. Her love was special, and already missed by all her loved ones.
She is survived by her soulmate and husband, Clark Ross lll, her daughter Kristen Schaefer, son-in-law Austin Schaefer, her two grandsons Kanaan and Jameson Schaefer, three sisters: Teresa Thorn and her husband Jim, Lisa Davis and her husband Steve, and Cynthia Shene, her brother Brian Thompson and his wife Karen, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Sandra Thompson, as well as her brother Mark Thompson.
We would like to invite you to a memorial service for Phyllis on June 4, 2022 at 10 a.m at Second Baptist North Campus in Kingwood. We'd like to give everyone an opportunity to say their final farewells. In lieu of flowers, a donation to
