René Kawalec, 92, passed away peacefully at home in his sleep on March 24, 2026.

Born in Paris, France, he immigrated to the United States in 1947 to join his mother. Following his service as a U.S. Marine, he became an engineer and home builder by profession, and an entrepreneur at heart. René built both homes and a life defined by hard work, humor, and resilience.

He married his beloved wife, Marlene, on October 22, 1960, and together they raised four sons: Rene Kawalec, Chad Kawalec, Andre Kawalec, and JC Kawalec. He cherished his five grandchildren—Kate, Shannon, Nolan, Finn, and Caitlin—and five great-grandchildren.

An accomplished artist, he loved art, classical music, and enjoyed a glass of red wine or two. He was also an avid tennis player and was known for his wonderful sense of humor.

René will be laid to rest at Houston National Cemetery with full military honors.

He will be remembered as a proud Marine, devoted husband, father, and grandfather—his journey from wartime Paris to a life of service and family leaves a lasting impact on all who knew him.
