Obituary

Richard S. Salkowski, 89, passed away peacefully on January 8, 2023, after a valiant struggle with Parkinson's and Alzheimer's. He was predeceased by his brother Robert and sister Ruth Emmons. Richard was born in Bayonne, NJ and lived in Warren, NJ, Hilton Head, SC, Westminster and Mount Airy, MD before moving to Montgomery, TX.  He was an alumnus of St Peter's Prep and St Peter's College.  He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and Army Reserve.

Prior to his retirement, he was an owner operator of Steve's Shop Rite of Avenue C and Shop Rite Liquors in Bayonne with his father and brother. He was also a member owner of Consolidated Supermarkets. He was an avid skier and member of the Staten Island Ski Club as well as the Westchester Ski Club.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Marianne, his daughter Cynthia Roberts (John) of Simi Valley, CA, his son Rick (Kristin) of Denver, NC, and his daughter Jill Mehra (Rahul) of Montgomery, TX and six grandchildren Hannah & Chris Salkowski, Simon & Anna Roberts and Eli & Andrew Mehra.

His Catholic faith and devotion to his family were the cornerstone of his life. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Richard was described by them as a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, great friend, and honorable man.

Richard was buried in a military funeral with a graveside religious service in the National Cemetery in Houston on February 3, 2023.  The ashes of his faithful canine companion, Buddy, will rest with him.  A memorial mass will be celebrated in New Jersey at a later date.  Donations can be made to your local Humane Society or St Jude Children's Research Hospital.
