August 3, 1959 – February 2, 2021
On February 2, 2021 Robert James Shelp, at age 61 died unexpectedly at his home in Houston, Texas. He was born on August 3, 1959 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Edda (Joyce) Exner-Shelp and Robert George Shelp.
Robert, lovingly called Bobby by family and friends, is survived by his beloved wife Melinda (Gorney) Shelp of 33 years; His two daughters Natasha (Cook) Moore and Cheyanne Shelp; His grandchildren Emma Moore (21 years old), Isabella Moore (16 years old) and Austin Green (4 years old); His sisters Kathrine (Shelp) spouse Billy Daniel of Georgia, Ginger (Shelp) spouse Bob Howerton of Michigan, Kristine (Gardner) spouse Clifford Benton of South Carolina, Cheryl (Devaney) spouse Bill Osborn of Tennessee, and Genevieve (Jenny) Kerstetter of Ohio; His brothers Mark Shelp of California, James Shelp of Michigan, Gary Shelp spouse Jodie VanOrd of Michigan, Michael Shelp of Florida, Randy Shelp of Michigan, Richard Gardner of Florida, and the late Donald Shelp of California. In addition, Bobby had many step siblings, nieces, great nieces, nephews, great nephews, and many friends he thought of as family.
Bobby is remembered as a kind-hearted person who loved spending time with his family and friends. He smiled so bright it could light up the room. His sense of humor was as bright as his smile – He often joked that he was "The best looking Shelp!" He would give you his last penny if you needed it and was someone you could count on. He proudly served his county by enlisting in the army as a young man. He had a passion for technology, especially in computers and received his degree from the Technical Intuition of Texas. This led him to employment at Texas Instruments Incorporated. Over the past few decades, he worked for various top concrete companies as Construction Superintendent. When he was not working, he spent time with his family and enjoyed riding his Harley motorcycle. He enjoyed life to the fullest taking nothing for granted. He will be greatly missed and never forgotten.
Bobby will be cremated at Graceful Memorial Chapel of Houston, Texas. Due to COVID-19, a memorial will be held at later date.
