Obituary

Roberta "Robin" Sue Saras, 67, hatched and raised in Franklin, Indiana, to Robert Dale, and Mary Jane (Hamilton) Woods soared off to her final roost in Houston, Texas, on Tuesday evening, April 23, 2024, surrounded by family following a truly courageous fight with end-stage liver disease. Known for her chirpy demeanor and nesting a family that truly flew the coop in the best of ways, Robin's flock will remember her for a keen sense of direction that could navigate any migratory path—be it through the thickets of life or through the sky-high challenges. She was a 1975 graduate of Indian Creek Senior High School, where she was a co-captain of the "Bravettes", the school dance team. She co-edited the senior yearbook with her life-long best friend, Michael Weaver. She was also a proud part of John Robert Powers Modeling school.

In 1977 she would marry Theodore Saras at what was likely (at the time) the only Greek Orthodox church in southern Indiana! They went on to move to suburban Chicago where she spent many happy years working as an inside sales representative in the electronic/semi-conductor industry before moving to Houston, TX and retiring to spend her days as a homemaker and a grandmother. She was a faithful wife, a wonderful mother and an unwavering friend who always remembered birthdays, anniversaries and special occasions, even after only meeting you once! She loved to read, loved politics and had a knack for history.

While no formal perch has been set for friends and family to gather, there's a whispered tweet about a tentative celebration of life in Martinsville, Indiana, where stories of Robin's adventures can be warbled when the summer sun is just right.

She is preceded in death by her mother Mary Jane (Hamilton) Woods, step-father Joe Stover, both of Morgantown, IN, her father Robert Dale Woods, brother Michael Dale Woods, both of Morgantown, IN, and her husband and partner in crime of 43 years before his passing, Theodore (Ted) Saras of Houston, TX.

Left behind to cherish her memory, to live and to love in her honor are her daughter and only child Alexandra L., her son-in-law Stephen Burton, and her grandson Theodore Liscano (7) all of Houston, younger brother James Matthew of Martinsville, loving sister-in-law Teresa L. (Mike) Woods of Martinsville, as well as many other cherished friends, family and loved ones around the country.

Should you wish to honor Robin in a flutter of goodwill, wing your way towards making a donation to your favorite charity—might we suggest one that sings the same tune as Robin's passions: helping animals, or the lead in the fight against addiction.

Keep an eye on the skies this summer for a cloud shaped like a laugh—a sign that Robin's playful spirit rides the wind.

A special thank you to all the home health aides, caregivers and physical therapists who saw Robin through some really difficult times and kept her spirit flying high.
