On March 7, 1930 in Houma, Louisiana, the late Joseph and Carrie Smith were blessed with Rosa Dell. After their deaths she was adopted by Rev. Harrison and Katie West Gary. She attended school in Houma, Louisiana and attended college at Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. On Friday, August 14, 2020 God called Rosa Dell to come home to him. Her transition was at Vista Hospice.

Rosa Dell was married to Sidney Jack Melancon who preceded her in death. She leaves to cherish her legacy, six sons and two daughters. Roderick (Rose) Melancon (Houston, TX), Enez Melancon (Canton, MS), Sidney Melancon (Houston, TX) Wayne Melancon (Houston, TX) Gregory Melancon (Houston, TX), Yvette Melancon (Humble, TX), Kevin (Jenniel) Melancon, (Norwalk, CA) and Arnold (Sandi) Melancon, Magnolia, TX. Nephews: Darrel (Conchita) Verret, Reginald Verret and niece Gloria Ann Verret. Plus numerous relatives, nieces, nephews and friends. Gloria Verret & Bessie Bernard (sisters), Paulette Bowie Melancon (daughter) preceded her in death. She leaves behind 18 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
