Obituary

Rudolph (Rudy) Lehle passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 13, 2021. He was 90 years old. He is preceded in death by his parents Jacob and Mali (Feilmoser) Lehle. Rudy leaves behind by his wife of 65 years,  Sophie (Rauchensteiner) Lehle; three sons, Peter Lehle (wife Terri), Rick Lehle, and Glenn Lehle (wife Lisa); two granddaughters, Danielle Lehle and Nicole (Lehle) Drescher (husband Joseph); three grandsons, Brooks Lehle (wife Hannah), Brett Lehle, and Sean Lehle; and a great-grandson, Henry Drescher.

Rudy was born on July 3, 1930, in New York City, New York. He graduated from Sewanhaka High School. He was a proud Eagle Scout and always supported the Boy Scouts of America. He was incredibly proud when his grandsons, Brooks and Sean, earned their Eagle.  After high school, he began a 38-year career with AT&T.  He also served his country for two years in Korea during the Korean War with the Marine Corps. He married Sophie Rauchensteiner on July 31, 1955.

During his career with AT&T, he resided in East Meadow, New York, and Annandale, New Jersey. While working and taking care of his family, he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from Hofstra University. He was an active volunteer in many organizations, including the Vice-Commissioner of the East Meadow Little League and President of the New Jersey Parents Association of the Air Force Academy. Following retirement from AT&T in 1987, Rudy and Sophie moved to Roaring Gap, North Carolina, where he continued his volunteer work while serving as Treasurer of the local VFW Chapter. Rudy supported and was very involved in his wife Sophie's Wachskundt Creations craft business which allowed them to travel to and attend craft shows all over the country. He also enjoyed installing central vacuum and stereo systems for friends and new neighbors, golfing, fishing, traveling, and especially gardening.

In 2011, Rudy and Sophie moved to The Village at Gleannloch Farms in Tomball, Texas, so they could be closer to family and watch their three grandsons grow up. Rudy loved people and never met a stranger. His smile, passion for life, kind heart, and witty sense of humor will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
