Sophie was born on August 4, 1934, in Landshut, Germany. She graduated from Seligenthal Oberschule and attended sewing and culinary school before immigrating to the US in 1952 after the war. She worked as a seamstress in New York City, where she met Rudy through mutual friends. They married on July 31, 1955 in New Hyde Park, New York.
Sophie and Rudy began their married lives together in East Meadow, New York, and had three sons. They moved to Annandale, New Jersey in 1973 and lived there until Rudy retired from AT&T in 1987. Sophie loved to sew, cook, bake, and entertain friends and family. She especially liked to sew curtains, make large hand-knotted carpets and wax ornaments for the holidays. After Rudy retired, they moved to Roaring Gap, North Carolina. It was in North Carolina where Sophie utilized her sewing and craft skills to start her own business which she named Wachskundt Creations. She made Christmas decorations, wax ornaments, angels, and Santa Clauses. She and Rudy loved to travel, so they attended craft shows all over the country to sell her creations. They also went on many trips all over the world, and even went on safari in South Africa.
In 2011, Rudy and Sophie moved to The Village at Gleannloch Farms in Spring, Texas so they could be closer to family and watch their three grandsons grow up. Sophie had a quick wit and was always to the point. She had a flair for fashion and style that will be remembered by all.
