Obituary

Steven Rankin Montgomery, beloved father, grandfather,
son, brother, son-in law, and friend, passed away peacefully
on October 6, 2025, at the age of 74, after a courageous
battle with cancer.
Steve was born on November 17, 1949, in San Francisco,
California, to Don and Emma Machac Montgomery. When
he was two years old, the family moved back to Houston,
Texas which has always been his hometown. In 1969,
Steve proudly joined the United States Navy, serving five
years as an Electrician aboard the USS Sea Devil nuclear
submarine. His years of service reflected the qualities that
defined his life — dedication, integrity, and a steadfast
sense of purpose.
Beyond his career and service, Steve was a man of many
passions and a deep love for music. He found joy and peace
in playing jazz guitar, often filling a room with the warm,
soulful sound of his strings. Music was his lifelong
companion and one of the many ways he expressed his
creativity and heart. Steve was known for his kindness, humor, and quiet
strength. He was devoted to his family, finding his greatest
pride in being a father and grandfather. He cherished every
moment with his daughters and grandchildren, whose
laughter and accomplishments brought him endless
happiness.
Steve is survived by his loving mother, Emma Machac
Montgomery; his daughters, Sabrina Montgomery-Owens
(husband Brad) and Stephanie Montgomery; and his
grandchildren — Taylor, Elizabeth, and Emmalynn Owens,
and Malachi and Kiya Montgomery. He is also survived by
his brothers Tim Montgomery and Greg Montgomery (wife
Kay), sister Pattii Montgomery (husband Bret Hanka), and
brother Deacon Jeff Montgomery (wife Liz), along with
their children, grandchildren, and numerous extended
family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his father, Don Montgomery;
his first wife, Donna Montgomery; and many cherished
loved ones who went before him.
Steve's life was one of quiet grace, love, and loyalty. His
warmth, humor, and music will continue to echo in the
hearts of all who knew him. Though his presence will be
deeply missed, his legacy of love and harmony will forever
live on.
