Victor Lane McCuin born on August 13, 1960, in Phoenix, Arizona, was sent to
his eternal home on Tuesday July 1, 2025.
Victor, or "Uncle Bictor" as he was affectionately known, was a shining light in the
lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His journey on this earth was
not an easy one due to a lengthy battle with medical complications from a car
injury, but it was embraced by love, compassion, forgiveness, determination and
unwavering faith in God. His passing has left a void in the hearts of his family,
friends, and those whose lives were touched by him. We ask that you remember
him for the way his life was lived, and for the profound impact he had on the lives
of those who had the pleasure of knowing him. He worked tenaciously to live and
thrive with purpose and meaning.
Victor was the youngest of nine children born to Arthur and Lorenza McCuin.
After his schooling from Alhambra High School in Phoenix AZ, Victor worked as a
skilled carpenter, handyman and painter up until his tragic car injury in 2003 that
left him paralyzed. Everyone that knew him adored and praised his work. In
1999, Victor McCuin married Debra Nichols, blending their families into one. With
their union, Victor embraced Debra's children — Jacquelyn "Jackie" Nichols,
Joshua Nichols, and Jeremy Nichols — as his own. Together, they welcomed
their son, Jharrod McCuin. To Jharrod, Victor was more than a father — he was
his best friend. His presence, love, and steady support will be deeply missed.
Victor found joy in reggae and socially "conscious" music and was the
embodiment of the Black Power movement. His love for black literature/poetry,
his people and the culture was evident in everything he did. Those who knew
Victor will remember him for his brilliant mind, his infectious smile, his deep love
for family and his many sayings like, "kinfolk!", "one love, one peace", "the more
you give, the more God gives back to you", "the sun, the moon..", or
"conversation rules the nation". He was also a vocal chatter box on current
world events and health matters. He exemplified self-determination and being
socially aware.
Through his medical and physical pain and struggles, he had deep-rooted faith,
spirituality, and an unwavering commitment to spreading love, knowledge and
kindness to family and everyone he encountered. His perseverance and self-
education in the medical field was relentless. Victor also had a rare gift for
making others think, smile, and laugh. He left a lasting impact on all who crossed
his path, no matter the current state of his health circumstance.
Victor is survived by his loving and adoring son, Jharrod McCuin and his
grandson Zyaire McCuin; stepchildren, Jackie, Joshua, and Jeremy Nichols. He
also leaves behind his sisters Barbara Karim, Dorothy King and Patricia McCuin

and many family members, nieces, nephews, friends, medical providers, and
caregivers, especially Eloise his caregiver, who took care of him and treated him
like family. Victor was proceeded in death by his beloved parents, Lorenza and
Arthur McCuin, his brothers, James, Gary, Wayne, and Steven McCuin. Along
with his sisters Lorraine McCuin and Shirley Ann Matson.
Rest peacefully Victor L McCuin knowing your existence in this lifetime had
meaning, purpose and substance!
